The Animal – Upper Gauley Race

The ANIMAL Upper Gauley Race has become one of the premier Extreme Events in the country; a downriver sprint on a legendary section of river. Now in it’s 17th year, this race has grown in notoriety and participation.

The racers finish at the squirly base of a Class V, 8-10 foot drop known as Sweet’s Falls. The locals say it’s a one-move pony where you find the tongue and stay upright through the curler,

Boats will start in intervals as before, EXCEPT that all boats will start in packs for that catagory. Packs will be limited to a max of 10 boats. Race head to head against your buddies, or follow someone if you don’t know the river well! This also builds another safety net into the race
